Just about every Sunday morning you will hear a preacher tell you that “you can do all things through Christ Jesus”. They are 100% right, but in the verse today we see that disciples that walked with Jesus were unable to do what was asked of them. Why? I can tell you in one word: Relationship. It was non existent. Many times in counseling I’ve noticed the biggest culprit in marital downfalls is a lack of relationship. What do I mean? It’s simple, many of us mistake proximity with relationship and they just are not the same. Spending time with someone is not being around that person but rather “connecting” with that person is what determines a true relationship. The term connecting means finding a common ground and building on that foundation. Is it easy? Not at all (ask my wife J ), but it is possible. This is where love comes into play and drives us to take action rather than live in denial. These disciples were religious, walked with the Rabbi, traveled abroad with the Rabbi but didn’t connect with Him. Due to this lack of connection they found themselves unable to do what He did. Want to move mountains? Want to heal the sick? Want to be used by God to restore the broken? Then we need to connect in relationship with Him who gave it all for us!

Mark 9:18 “And wherever it lays hold of him [so as to make him its own], it dashes him down and convulses him, and he foams [at the mouth] and grinds his teeth, and he [ falls into a motionless stupor and] is wasting away. And I asked Your disciples to drive it out, and they were not able [to do it].”

Prácticamente todos los domingos podemos encontrar a un predicador diciendo: “todo lo puedes en Cristo que te fortalece”. Esta frase es 100% cierta, pero en el versículo de hoy, podremos ver que los discípulos que caminaron con Jesús no pudieron hacer todo lo que se les pedía. ¿Por qué? La respuesta se encunetra en una sola palabra: "Relación". No existía una verdadera relación, muchos veces en consejería, me doy cuenta que el motivo principal de los diferentes problemas es la falta de “relación”. ¿A que me refiero? Es muy simple, muchos de nosotros confundimos el estar físicamente cerca a alguien a tener una buena relación con ellos; cercanía y relación no son la misma cosa. El pasar tiempo con alguien no se trata solamente de estar con ellos en un lugar en común sino más bien se trata de encontrar una “conexión” con esta persona. La palabra “conexión” significa encontrar algo en común y construir un buen fundamento basado en estas cosas. ¿Será que esto es fácil? Por supuesto que si (le pueden preguntar a mi esposaJ), pero no es imposible. El amor nos lleva a tomar acción y no a simplemente seguir en la misma rutina que no está funcionando, negando lo que claramente está mal. Los discípulos eran religiosos, caminaron con el Rabí, viajaron a diferentes lugares con el pero no lograron una verdadera conexión con él. Es por esta falta de conexión que muchas veces no lograron hacer lo que se proponían. ¿Te gustaría mover las montañas? ¿Quieres sanar a los enfermos? ¿Quieres que Dios te use para restaurar lo que esta quebrantado? Entonces tenemos que encontrar esa conexión que nos une a el por medio de una buena relación.
