God bless!
When we think of being saved from something, normally the first thought is a masked super hero flying in at a high speed to do it. It’s what has been embedded into our minds from movies and society in general. With that said the verse today turns the tables on us and tells us that Salvation doesn’t come from a super hero but rather our ability to believe or have faith. To have faith in what? In the word that is released from the mouth of our Savior. He says “simply believe” He will hold us. Simply believe that He will not deny us. Simply believe that no matter how dirty we get or how far we walk away from Him, He is willing and able to reach out and save us. This woman from the verse today was considered to be “an especially wicked sinner” yet in the presence of her Savior she didn’t hold back from honoring Him because of her condition but did it even more, why? She knew that He had the power to undo what she had done and make right all her paths. She didn’t care what anyone thought or said (I’m sure they said plenty about her up to that point anyway!) she broke her most valuable possession and honored Him with it. What is our most valuable possession? Money? Car? House? Nope. It’s our pride! Let’s break our pride and trust that He will sustain us! This will allow us to enter into our peace.
